Greetings from the rector

The State University of Land Use Planning is one of the oldest higher educational establishments in Russia; in May 2029 we will celebrate its two hundred and fifty anniversary.

The University was founded in 1779 with the sole purpose to educate personnel in order to support the land reform in Russia, the large-scale surveying of all lands, and the organization of their efficient use. In that period it had become obvious that the efficient land administration would have had far-reaching political, social, and economic consequences for the formation of the territory of the Russian state both in borders’ security and in the establishment of property rights.

Historical traditions and today's vigorous activity have allowed our university deservedly to have the status of the main educational, methodological and scientific center of land use planning and cadastre in Russia. Owing to the long-term work our university has established what we call our "University complex", which includes 26 education, research and production enterprises. This has allowed us to organize the educational process with the latest scientific and technological achievements and to incorporate them successfully into the educational process using the latest methods.

The university is the coordinator of activities for 108 higher educational establishments of Russia and other foreign countries, which are permanent and associative members of the Educational and Methodological Association of Higher Educational Institutions in the areas of land use planning and cadastre.

Our university is the recognized higher educational establishment not only in Russia, but also abroad. The versatile and serious work of the university’s staff has provided us with the ability to establish and maintain professional cooperation with other universities from many countries around the world. The university carries out the long-term international activity with large training and scientific centers of Europe, Asia, America and of all CIS countries. Our partners are such well-known universities as Michigan Technological University (the USA), China Agricultural University (China), London Metropolytan University (Great Britain), The National Institute of Applied Science of Strasbourg (France), The Anhalt University of Applied Sciences, The Technische Hochschule Georg Agricola (THGA) (Germany), The University of Palermo (Italy), The Autonomous University of Sinaloa (Mexico) and many others. We are participating actively in many unique and interesting projects together with the abovementioned universities. "Napoleon`s Medal" (2003, France), "European Grand Prix for Quality" (2012, Switzerland), “ESQR’s Quality Achievements Awards” (2015, Great Britain) and other prestigious international awards reflect our serious role and place in the educational process and encourage us for further achievements in the third millennium.

The world community needs spiritual solidarity, so that local conflicts would not become global. The land and the care of it are the means of communication between states and nations, between social layers of the population; therewith it is possible to create a constructive dialogue and plans for the future. This dialogue has been called upon to enhance feelings of the students, responsibility and patriotism for their native country and for the planet and for all its inhabitants.          With this in mind we have begun to work actively with the UNESCO, FAO, FIG and other international organizations. We hope that our co-operation will be fruitful.

The educational process and training of future specialists are being developed. A lot of attention has been paid to modern global problems as well as to the issue of sustainable growth of land efficiency. Our university follows carefully the national tradition to graduate not only professional and highly qualified specialists but also sincere servants of the Russian state and patriots, who would consider their profession to be a spiritual calling, reminding them of their responsibilities for the future.
